Conference Scope Conference Scope

The Fourth International Conference on Digital Presentation and Preservation of Cultural and Scientific HeritageDiPP2014 aims at presenting innovative results, research projects and applications in the field of digitisation, documentation, archiving, representation and preservation of global and national tangible and intangible cultural and scientific heritage. The main focus is to provide open access to digitised cultural heritage and to set up sustainable policies for its continuous digital preservation and conservation. The priority area is the digital presentation and preservation of cultural and historical objects under conditions of risk, including those from the Veliko Tarnovo region. The forum will demonstrate innovative technologies and prototypes, including digital repositories, digital archives, virtual museums and digital libraries, which result from established practices and achievements in the field. Representatives of public and specialised libraries, museums, galleries, archives, centres, both national and foreign research institutions and universities are invited to participate and exchange experiences, ideas, knowledge and best practices of the field.

In the frame of the Fourth International Conference on Digital Presentation and Preservation of Cultural and Scientific Heritage—DiPP2014 an autumn training school Development and Promotion of Open Access to Scientific Information and Research (OA School) will be organized.

The autumn training school Development and Promotion of Open Access to Scientific Information and Research is supported by the EU FOSTER project.

The main objectives of the Autumn Training School Development and Promotion of Open Access to Scientific Information and Researchis to train young and experienced researchers, managers, regional academic and research organisations in the integrating of open access (OA) and open data principles and practices into the current research work-flow in Bulgarian and South-East Europe. In suitable and intuitive ways the lecturers will present several workable strategies, business models, work plans, best practices and examples of implementation of the open access and open science paradigm for ubiquitous science sharing, dissemination and promotion. Special attention will be given to the presentation of successful initiatives and projects for open access, open data sharing and open science; strategies for the OA promotion; copyright and licenses under OA; best practices and examples of policies for the development and promotion of open access at the national and institutional levels, etc. The training will be divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The practical part will focus on how to organize and maintain OA repositories in academic and research organization, how to practice OA, from writing an article to publishing/depositing in OA repositories and sharing data, target content for OA, OA repositories interoperability and integration, etc.

B.Ss. M. Sc., PhD students, Post-doctoral researchers and young professionals can apply for five student bursaries which will cover the registration fees. These bursaries will be granted on a first come, first served policy.
